I think people should think more about trying to slow down AI progress, if they believe it's going to destroy the world soon. I know people have like eighteen reasons to dismiss this idea out of hand, but I dispute them:

I hear people say AI is an arms race, and so parties ought to speed even at risk of human extinction. I disagreeāthe situation doesnāt clearly resemble an arms race, and if it did, we would do better to get out of it.

Have you had any kind of 'long covid'? Do you feel like telling me about it? I'm curious for a better sense of how bad it has been for folks - numbers like '8% chance brain fog' sound bad to me, but does that mean 'sometimes a bit distracted', or 'can no longer work'?
