History made!
The gavel just came down on a historic resolution at #UNEA5 to #BeatPlasticPollution.
Humbled to have been in the room as Heads of State, Ministers and other reps from across the globe endorsed the #PlasticTreaty@UNEP
Celebrating the first step towards the #UNEA5 global agreement to end plastic pollution, will see the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG), convene in Dakar, Senegal 🇸🇳 from 29 May –1 June 2022.

I enjoyed moderating the @UN Ocean Conference, Road to Lisbon side event, at #UNEA5 today. Huge thanks to governments & speakers from Portugal 🇵🇹 , Kenya 🇰🇪 , @andersen_inger@ThomsonFiji for laying out the roadmap & building the momentum needed to act #ForNature & save our seas.
I feel very honored to support the tireless work done by the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives #OECPR informal consultations over the weekend. The hard work of member states has yielded a strong positive result towards a resolution to #BeatPlasticPollution#UNEA5
Honoured to hear from Brazil's 🇧🇷 1st Minister of Indigenous People @GuajajaraSonia & climatologist Carlos Nobre on challenges & solutions for the Amazon's #sociobiodiversity!
@UNEP is using traditional & scientific knowledge for local, regional, & international support.
An incredible launch event for the @OceanPanel today. As part of #OceanAction2030 let us all prioritize a #SustainableOceanPlan as it can yield economic, health, & environmental benefits as high as 5x the costs. @UNEP is pleased to join hands with the Ocean Action 2030 Coalition!
🛑 It is clear that Nitrogen is accumulating in the environment faster than our capacity to break it down!
Here's an op-ed I participated in on sustainable nitrogen management practices on @TheScotsman.
Thanks 🙏 to @philip_ciwf and @CIWF_Global#UNEA6
So pleased to have shared @TESSForum the next steps towards an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution that was adopted at #UNEA5
Thanks to @IHEID@TESSForum and the governments of Barbados, Ecuador, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom…

I've been with @EUinKenya at the #GoBlue campaign, and it has been incredible to have so much support and great energy for discussions and, of course, beach cleanup!
Together we can #BeatPlasticPollution@GoBlueKenya
It is very encouraging to see the impact of @UNEP -led interventions in biodiversity conservation in Southeast Asia with funding from @theGEF.
These concrete actions are a true reflection of UNEP's commitment to global marine resource sustainability and ecosystem restoration.
“The blue swimming crab is key to our livelihoods. I worry about what the next generation will have left if we don't change our ways.”
Crabs sustain the economy of many coastal communities. UNEP works with them to preserve these essential marine resources unep.org/news-and-stori…
