That’s me at 47, free and unfiltered. Do we have the courage to be seen as we are? I did not when I was younger. Not everyone will recognize you, but love your skin and the stories it tells, your experiences, your essence and the world will reflect back your radiance. #unfilterme

You’re right. I’m old. Older than time, my boy. Perhaps you will never grow up in your mind but your body will and it’s a blessing to be wise, a cancer survivor and living my best life at 46. Unshakeably secure and happy in my spirit and body. Hope you can experience that one day

Does anyone else see the irony in using THIS image - instead of an author image provided- for an article about my memoir @CloseToTheBone_ where I talk about struggling as a women with overcoming sexist stereotypes? Just landed in Kolkata and I must say I’m disappointed @ttindia

Kolkata, city of my father and half of my lineage, today. I saw someone holding a placard that said: ‘My parents are from two religions, I’m a child of the constitution’ and that indeed is what I am. I’ve never been asked my religion in any country or to justify my identity. 🙏🏼

My father was born in 1933, in undivided India. He has no birth certificate. My grandfather was a judge who was transferred every 3 years to another district in what today is known as Bangladesh. They returned to Kolkata August 15, 1947. Under NRC how would they prove citizenship

Am I a fan of SRK? Yes. Since the early 90s (when I came across this young Delhi boy in person) Have I seen Pathaan? Nope. Will I? Maybe, maybe not. But the fact that most of India is flooding the theatres carries a meaning that goes beyond box office returns. Meaning? Up to you.

Don’t forget the real agenda here. And remember: you might think you are safe. But fascists and authoritarian figures only care about themselves and absolute power. They will come for you- including Hindus, because there is no one way to practise Hinduism - and make you conform

What’s so interesting about the India of today is the amount of vitriol and hate spewed on social media towards anyone who disagrees with the current government’s policies. Never happened before. Cannot but link a culture of hate and paranoia with the government of today.

So I’m 48 today, it’s also a magical 4/4/4 day in numerology and I believe in the power of our planet to regenerate. Also: the introvert in me loves there are no parties or over enthusiastic plans. Why celebrate a single day? I’m grateful for every moment: a teaching in disguise

What is happening today across India is unacceptable. This is no longer about a bill, but the erosion of democratic rights to raise your voice, to peacefully protest and dissent. Wake up. This is not about beliefs, religion or safeguarding your interests: it’s about power.
