The US admits about 200,000 international students from India every year. 4 years later, they graduate into a free-for-all fight for green cards. Fewer than 3% will stay long term. The student visa-to-green-card pipeline is broken, and it hurts everyone. Quick math:

My take on the $100k H-1B rule: Scary headline, that’s almost certainly not going to happen for two reasons: 1) business impact - there are too many people on (and getting) H-1Bs. Despite what critics said, employers are hiring people at above-average wages because they can’t

“I can’t get hired because H-1Bs stole my software engineering job for $37k per year” Also, “They get H-1Bs to work at 7-11s, as Uber drivers, in HR departments to hire more H-1Bs…” Wild that 85,000 people /yr can take every job in America. Unmatched work ethic. Long India

People on H-1B visas getting laid off have 60 days to leave the US. Many have begun an 11 year long green card process but are 5, 10 years away from getting it. Employer lays them off, and it’s all gone. 🙅🏼 Pack your bags. There’s a solution nobody is talking about:

I probably talk to 10-20 H-1B holders a week and tell them to consider a move to O-1 visas asap. Been saying this since 2016. The biggest reason why: O-1 visas don’t get caught in political crossfire. Today’s proclamation feels validating in the worst way.

~150,000 new H-1Bs approved per year, between new lottery winners and job changes. ~7.5 million job openings right now 2% could be filled by H-1Bs *** Are you telling me that <2% of jobs are specialty occupation jobs and they are all going to H-1b workers?

I’m a big fan of the H-1B program. It’s flawed in ways, but I’ve seen many H-1B recipients go on to start $X00m companies. Huge win for America. There seem to be two types of people on H-1Bs. Super broad strokes, but: #1 - maybe start as int’l student, join tech companies,

Submitting two more H-1Bs today. Just doing my part to help startups hire cheap labor.🫡

You’re an anon account. I’m a guy that helps companies hire these H-1B workers at $200k / year. Employers would love to hire cheaper American talent. That talent doesn’t exist.

Just wait until all these people that are mad about 85,000 H-1Bs find out about the O-1 visa. - no limit - no lottery - anyone can apply - zero education required - $40-60k salaries - credentials can be bought with $~5k and a little effort They gonna be so mad.

On an H-1B and want to build a startup? 🛠️ With a full time job, your visa only lets you work for one employer. 🤦‍♀️ Your options seem limited. How to become a CEO without jeopardizing your H-1B, dropping your salary, or leaving the country. I've helped 20+ people do this:

About HALF of graduating Master's and PhD students are international students, (compared to ~5% of undergrad students.) One could argue the immigration system is so bad it forces 10x as many international students into academia. More schooling only delays the problem...

A Master's/ PhD does improve odds in the H-1B lottery, but even IF an Indian student goes through undergrad, and/or Master's and/or PhD here, there's no endgame. The current wait for an EB-2 visa, the green card for highly skilled/ advanced degree holders, is about 100 years.
