Harsh but Genuine Query Advice
1) You can do everything “right” and still fail.
Luck is downplayed greatly in this industry, but it is one of the biggest factors to success. Luck that you found the right agent, at the right time, in the right mood with the right book.
I’ve also seen this issue brought up among teen readers who feel like they don’t have a space in YA because all of the characters read too mature. Adults should be guests in the YA space, not the main audience
Biphobia coming from both in and out of the LGBTQ+ community is a special kind of pain. It’s a place you’re supposed to feel supported, but you’re mocked there, too…

let me just say it’s VERY transparent when you:
-have a history of not liking pitch contests and use your “expertise” to insist they suck
-call a current wave of writers (filled with marginalized ppl) “less talented” than the “golden age” from when your friends were pitching🧐
I'm seeing a lot of YA crossover with characters that are 17-19 years old while MG has tended to be at 12. I can't help but wonder if there's a deficit of stories for younger teens and tweens 13-16
