Attach doc to email. Open attachment to quickly skim. Catch typo. Remove attachment. Open system version. Fix typo. Save doc. Reattach doc. Repeat until you throw your computer out the window.

Not sure that I would recommend having your 1st argument experience be on your last day of a job, but going out on a win is a damn good feeling. Today, I successfully argued a motion for compassionate release. After 34 years in prison, my client is set to come home next week.

What purpose do the straight apostrophes in Word serve other than to tattle on me for copying and pasting?

How many times do you reread an email before sending it to a client, and why is it always at least 10?

Cleaning out a closet today and found feedback from a class I took 3L year. The prof told me that I was “well on [my] way to being an expert Supreme Court litigator.” Tbh, I never even considered I could have such a career until she said that. Feedback & encouragement matters.

Debating starting to call out reporters for major news orgs like @washingtonpost and @nytimes for not including the link to court opinions in the articles they publish discussing them. This is getting old.

Honored to have presented my first oral argument today in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit! I am so grateful to our client for trusting me, and to my bosses (James Tysse, @Pratik_A_Shah, among others) for championing me at every step. Now, we wait.

Today was my 1000th class at the gym I started going to October of 1L year. I cannot stress enough how critical that outlet and community has been in surviving law school, transitioning to big law, and maintaining my health. Whatever makes you move and gives you friends, do that.

Two years later…I’m public again! I am so lucky to have clerked for two of the absolute best judges in the federal judiciary—and with the best co clerks to boot. Next up: two months of fun-employment!
