Our new book - written by @jevershed01 and I - has a title which seems more apt than ever today. It will be published on St Patrick's Day and is available for pre-order now agendapub.com/books/160/a-tr…
Bottom line: Reproaches from Britain (and in this case a former unelected Brexit Minister) will harden rather than moderate US resolve to see the #NIProtocol implemented. It is an ill-advised British strategy 5/5
I spent some time in Washington DC in March speaking to a number of Irish-American figures about Northern Ireland and #Brexit. Thread 1/5

After 21 yrs, today I take my leave of @UCC. I've had a wonderful two decades here! I'm very thankful for great students & colleagues & the many opportunities which UCC gave me. I will always look back with gratitude on my yrs here. Now it's on to the next chapter @BostonCollege
US support for upholding and implementing the #NIProtocol is resolute. It is also *bipartisan* at a time when few issues in US politics enjoy bipartisan support 2/5
Thank you to members of @HocGfa and others for meeting with me in Washington DC this week. My key takeaway:
👉 US support for #GFA and implementation of #NIprotocol is high level, bipartisan and resolute.
With respect, this is a mis-characterisation of the current situation in NI. To portray the riots as signalling the death of hope does not acknowledge that the vast majority of people in NI abhor and reject this violence and continue to support the @BelfastAgmt.
The 10th April 1998 the Good Friday Agreement was signed. The people of Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland rejoiced. The politicians of Northern Ireland, the Republic, Mainland UK & US had achieved the impossible. Had given us hope.
On 6th April 2021, this hope is dying.
Support is also evident beyond politics including among senior academics and leading business figures. Note in particular, the membership and work of the @HocGfa 4/5
