BREAKING: Gov. Jared Polis will convene the legislature on Aug. 21 to enact cuts to the state budget amid a $1 billion deficit, even as he is instituting a hiring freeze. trib.al/mmkOWjc
Today, we filed a lawsuit against the State because HB-1296 violates TABOR. Elected officials are not allowed to raise taxes on overtime by $500M without voter approval. #copolitics#coleg
We’ve had TABOR for over 30 years in Colorado. When your budget increases by over $2B in one year, and then you still claim you’re $1.2B short, of course it’s overspending. #copolitics#coleg
In Colorado, local law enforcement is prohibited from sharing information with federal immigration authorities, even if it’s a violent criminal. This needs to change. #copolitics#coleg
We used to get $750 TABOR tax refunds. Then, Colorado Democrats passed bad policies and mismanaged the budget. Now, we get no TABOR refunds and the state has a budget deficit. #copolitics#coleg
Democrats blew a $3.6B surplus in 3 years and then raised taxes on overtime. Special session will highlight how unpopular their fiscal policies are. #copolitics#coleg
Why are Colorado Democrats trying to shift the blame of the state’s budget issues to the federal government? Because they are seeing the same polling we are: Coloradans correctly blame Governor Polis and the legislature for the state’s budget deficit instead of the federal
This is a blatant lie. Before the federal bill passed, there wasn’t even enough money to cover the senior homestead exemption, which meant no TABOR refunds for anyone.
Democrats blew the entire $3.6 billion surplus, where we all got $750 refunds checks 3 years ago - and are now
TABOR robs CO of fully funded schools, great roads, and good services — literally the only redeeming quality people experience w/ TABOR are refunds, and now @repgabeevans@RepJeffHurd@laurenboebert and @RepJeffCrank took those away from you.
All to lick some billionaire boots.
In Colorado, fees have increased by 3,000% since TABOR passed in 1992.
Citizens paid $23.3 BILLION in fees in 2023.
Politicians use fees to get around voter approval for new taxes.
How did this happen? How can we fix it? Here's the full story ⬇️ #copolitics
We’ve had TABOR for 32 years - and single-party control of our state for 6 years.
Is there even one state ranking that we’ve gone up on during those 6 years? #copolitics
I agree!
It's time to repeal TABOR and finally invest into our drastically underfunded services for better infrastructure, safety, schools, more homes, cleaner environment, etc.
