- Surely it’s time that SA hosts another Rugby World Cup. We’ve won the cup 4 times but only hosted once. We have great stadiums, great airports, friendly (rugby mad) people, a great climate and awesome scenery.
- I feel for Mercedes-Benz SA and BMW SA. They export cars to the US and now face a 25% - 30% tariff. It means 5500 people are likely to lose their jobs and $1.3 billion of exports stop.
- Hypothesis: The Rand will tell us who the coalition partners are. Long before it is publicly announced.
- South Africans are some of the most authentically friendly people in the world. Don’t believe me? Just be genuinely friendly yourself and observe their reaction.
- Breaking: SANLAM buying 25% of Tyme Bank for > R2 billion is a really big deal. 1 It validates the challenger banking model. 2 It shows that bancassurance is alive and well. And 3 it provides ARC with firepower to keep investing in startups.
- The Springboks are the only team in the Rugby World Cup that have not conceded a try.
- Maybe not well-known is that the @BankZeroSA founding team didn’t pay themselves any salary for 8 years. Instead they contributed their own capital and sweat equity. Start-ups are more likely to win when the entrepreneurs have skin in the game.
- As a complete aside: people in Johannesburg are so, very, authentically friendly.
- Less ministers, less regulation and less state wastage leads to much higher growth. Obvious to many.🚨 Breaking: Argentina's 🇦🇷 annual GDP growth now stands at 5.8%, the highest in the Western world, and higher than China! @JMilei's miracle is unstoppable!
- Grok tells me that that over the last decade, South Africa has received around $6.6 billion in aid from the U.S., with a substantial portion dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS. And no funding from Russia.
- South Africa has now installed more rooftop solar (7.3GW) than the total capacity of renewable energy IPPs that supply Eskom. Businesses and homes are making their own plans to get cheaper power.
- The National Credit Act stops reckless lending. We need something similar that stops reckless gambling.Gambling accounts for over half of household spending on recreation, sport & culture! 54,5% 😢😢😢😢😢 The impacts of gambling are dire and law makers aren’t doing enough in my view!
