- Another war on Gaza. More disproportionate violence. More disproportionate deaths, injuries and property destruction. More human misery. More silence from the West. The path to peace is through justice and human rights, which starts with ending the medieval blockade of Gaza.
- Aggression by one state against another is a clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law. So is occupation and annexation by a state over territory that doesn't belong to it, whether it is Russia in Ukraine or Israel in Palestine.
- Are you amused by the single-minded focus on Russian violations of international law? Me neither. International law is not a menu a la carte: it applies with equal force to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
- An 80 year-old Palestinian American encounters Israeli soldiers in his West Bank village as he drives home from playing cards. An hour later, he is dead. Say his name: Omar As'ad haaretz.com/israel-news/tw…
- On 27 April, three fmr. Special Rapporteurs for the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, including myself, urged the UN leadership to publicly defend our successor, Ms. Francesca Albanese, who has been the target of relentless smear campaigns 🧵 1/8
- A new comprehensive UN study concludes that the 56 year old Israeli occupation is illegal, having breached fundamental norms of international law. A must read for anyone interested in international justice.
- In criticizing the Amnesty report on Monday, Israeli FM Yair Lapid stated that "Israel...is committed to international law." Can someone explain to me how this squares with building 300 settlements, which is a "flagrant violation under international law", as per UNSC 2334? (1)
- Al Jazeera has published a fine article on the campaign targeting UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese for her human rights advocacy. Scratch a critic of the UN's work on Palestine, and you will find a staunch defender of the Israeli occupation.
- Yet another attack on Palestinian civil society. Yet another attempt to silence well-respected Palestinian voices critical of the 55 year old occupation. I welcome the concern shown by EU member states and UN agencies, but only accountability with teeth will make a difference.
- What does international law say about the conduct of Israel and Hamas during this current assault on Gaza? Read my new post published by DAWN:
- Amnesty International has released a comprehensive and responsible report on apartheid in Israel/Palestine. If you can't read the 200+ pages of the report, watch this powerful 14 minute video: youtu.be/CoFjbnvkmQ0
- President Biden will likely be the first US president since Gerald Ford not to initiate even a pretend peace process between Israel and Palestine. Read Alex Kane's remarkable article on Biden's eyes-wide-open encouragement of apartheid.
- As Special Rapporteur, I call upon Israel to end its practice of administrative detention (AD), which imprisons Palestinians without charge, trial or conviction. Amal Nakhleh is one of many children held under AD by Israel f24.my/8HaL.T via @FRANCE24
