The performance of our AstroPix gamma-ray sensors will be tested on @NASA’s FFR (Fly Foundational Robots) mission set to launch in late 2027. In the future, these sensors could detect light from black hole-powered galaxies and cosmic explosions. More: go.nasa.gov/4eduN97

Astronomers may have found one of the closest supernova remnants to the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. It's expanding at about 3.2 million kilometers per hour (2 million mph) and is at least 1,700 years old. 💥More: s.si.edu/sgrc26

Once you’ve caught up on Fermi news, have some cake! When Fermi turned 5, team members who bake in their spare time made this treat. The Large Area Telescope tracker was vanilla cake with green frosting for the tungsten foils, and the calorimeter was chocolate cake.

What's creating a bubble of gas below our galaxy? Astronomers using Fermi traced it back to Westerlund 1, a cluster of young stars. Supernova explosions and stellar winds within the cluster may be driving the outflow. More: go.nasa.gov/4fBtW33

Fermi helped reveal the power source of a rare and unusually luminous supernova. A supermagnetized neutron star amplified the blast, causing the stellar explosion to shine brightly in visible light and gamma rays much longer than anticipated! go.nasa.gov/4fBtUYZ

Webb has delivered the strongest evidence yet that its discovery of mysterious Little Red Dots (LRD) are “black hole stars.” They appear starting ~600 million years after the big bang, and scientists are still working out exactly what they are. science.nasa.gov/missions/webb/…
$A field of galaxies against the black background of space. In the center is a bright-white elliptical galaxy that is the core of the Abell S1063 galaxy cluster. Around the core are short, curved red lines, which are distant background galaxies magnified and warped by gravitational lensing. A couple of foreground stars appear large and bright with Webb’s signature eight-point diffraction spike pattern. Toward the very bottom, slightly off center toward the right, is a small red dot that is highlighted by an orange square outline. A larger orange square in the top right corner shows the object in more detail. The object, labeled “GLIMPSE-17775” looks like a fuzzy red dot with a yellow core.$
