    We had to share this, for the day that's in it! ❤️ One of our most loved paintings, The Meeting on the Turret Stairs has borne witness to many first dates (and quite a few marriage proposals!). It's on display from 11.30am-1.30pm today if you want to pay a #ValentinesDay visit.

    We’re remembering Sinéad O’Connor today, on the first anniversary of her death. We acquired this photograph by Hugh O’Conor last year, taken in Bray in 2014 while he was shooting the music video for ‘8 Good Reasons’.

    We are romantics at heart here at the National Gallery of Ireland, so we love that we were the chosen site of a marriage proposal recently, in front of The Marriage of Strongbow and Aoife in our Shaw Room. 💕 Congratulations to Rob and Avril, wishing you every happiness!

    We're so pleased to say that this recently acquired portrait of the historian and human rights activist Catherine Corless by Paul MacCormaic has just gone on display in Room 23. We're open until 8.30pm this evening if you're nearby and want to call in to see it.

    This is 1 of 6 decorative paintings of angels that Harry Clarke made in 1924 for St Mary’s Church, Haddington Rd. The canvases were discovered rolled up behind the church’s organ in 1968 & subsequently acquired by us. (Harry Clarke, Angels, 1924) #12ArtworksofChristmas | 10/12
