In addition, a high risk of rip currents continues through this morning. Although the risk drops slightly, continue to be vigilant, check the beach conditions before entering water, and know what to do if you get caught in a rip current.

The heat will continue to persist through the weekend. If you will be outdoors today, remember to take breaks in the shade or indoors w/ AC, drink plenty of water and know the signs of heat illness. Take extra care if you are sensitive to heat or not used to it.

Heat is the main concern the next couple days, especially for visitors. Stay hydrated and avoid prolonged time outside in the heat of the day. Also be aware of a high risk for rip currents if you're at the beach. Sunday into next week, locally heavy rainfall will be possible.

A high risk of rip currents continues today into Fri morning, along with hot temperatures with highs in the 90s and heat indices in the 100s through most of the week. We'll then have increasing chances of rain and a slight downtrend in high temps starting Sunday.

The main story for the rest of the week will be heat and rip currents. There's a 10% chance of tropical development in the Bay of Campeche, but significant development is not expected as the system moves into eastern Mexico. We will see an increase in rain chances Sunday onward.

Areas that have had shower/thunderstorm activity have maximized around 1 to 2 inches of rainfall. Increasing coverage and training of showers/storms this afternoon will increase the potential for flooding issues, favoring the Houston metro and surrounding areas. #txwx
