Sinners uses vampires to show the parasitic and culturally destructive nature of White Religion on Black Diaspora. It acknowledges Christianity as a tool of hope, but poses it as ultimately fruitless.

The facts: • Boravia is described as “The United States’ Greatest ally” • Jarhanpur described as full of oil reserves • Casting call was put out for Middle Eastern actors and extras • The conflict very clearly occurs in the Middle East Prolly just a coincidence tho

this is giving a lot of credit to a fairly generic invasion/war subplot that you could apply a dozen other conflicts to as a parallel, including the one that was actually at the forefront of the news cycle at the time of writing, not just The Most Recently Covered Thing ™️

In the same way, Christ did not save our characters from Racism, Indentured Servitude, and Jim Crow, he does not save them from otherworldly evil as well. They go so far as to mock the Lord’s Prayer implying he once thought Christ could save him too

The film ends with Sammie ultimately rejecting Christianity and as a result chooses to live his life as a Blues Musician, free from the oppression inherent to a religion designed by white people and forced onto black people

Superman is about as Anti-Zionist as an major Hollywood film can be without getting its cast and crew completely blacklisted. Gunn is gonna deny it for sure but I expect a lot of backlash tbh

You don’t have agree with it, but that’s what the film is very openly about. Imperialism’s destructive effects on Black and African culture. The way our ancestors’ religion, culture, and names were stripped from them, and replaced with the beliefs and customs of their oppressors
