    Our Ridgeback Leadership Council, on behalf of Ontario Tech student-athletes, has released this statement in response to the province’s elite amateur sports league designations.
    Ridgeback Leadership Council statement: University athletes in Ontario have dedicated many years to competing at the highest level and require consistent and supportive training environments to be able to continue the growth of elite sport. We respect the health and safety guidelines that are in place, however our athletes are vaccinated, tested regularly, and continue to be diligent and responsible in adhering to public health protocols in sport. Our student-athletes are very hard working, dedicated, and healthy individuals in our community that earned the right to be considered elite and awarded the opportunity to compete and train in order to continue pursuing their goals, as well as to be pioneers in our community that drive the development of sport forward. These are uncertain and difficult times for many of us and sport plays a major role for athlete’s mental, physical, and emotional well-being which are absolutely essential for numerous young athletes in the OUA.
