Mick McCarthy leaves the ROI job for the second time, at his own choosing, falling on his contract sword of July 31 to spare any hassle with the FAI or his successor, Stephen Kenny. A manager of integrity to the end.

Signing off at Tolka on Friday. Huge thanks to Damien Duff @shelsfc and Stephen Bradley @ShamrockRovers for their generous send off. On the go since 1982 from the Irish Press to the Indo @IndoSport and Irish Mail @irishdailymail @IrishMailSunday. It was a privilege. Had a blast.

Astonishing scenes at Cheltenham as Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore celebrate a momentous victory. This was special.

Not every Augusta press rookie ⁦@TheMasters⁩ gets drawn to play Augusta National on the Monday. Fingers crossed, the luck of the Irish holds for @ShaneLowryGolf over the weekend. ⁦@McIlroyRory⁩ and ⁦@Power4Seamus⁩ also looking to make inroads on the leaders.

Mick McCarthy camp in dark over FAI 'guarantee' that Stephen Kenny to follow McCarthy as ROI manager after Euro 2020. More to follow on this bizarre story.

Rae's Creek and an Aul Creek together at the Hogan Bridge (Ben, not @Vincent_Hogan) @AugustaNational on Monday. Not even a Tiger red top could prevent an Amen Corner affliction. A day of days.

In their hour of need the @FAIreland turned to CEO John Delaney for a 100k dig out. It happened at the end of April, 2017 when the FAI should have been flush - €11m from Euro 2016 finals, and a 50,000 full house v Wales in Dublin. Most curious.

John Delaney was chauffeured away as he left the Carlton Airport Hotel a few minutes ago. At his lowest career moment, he availed of the trappings of privilege.

Rumours swirling in the wind here in Gibraltar about a significant FAI statement post-match. Is there anyone more significant at the moment than John Delaney? We'll see.

Great to see @gregallenRTE being recognised in Budapest tomorrow by world sport’s press body @AIPSmedia for covering 10 World Athletics Championships. Fitting recognition for a top pro.

Forty years out of Rathmines College of Commerce and still on the journalism beat with @gregallen and @philreidgolf at St Andrews for the 150th Open.

Fair play to @bfcdublin for holding on to their 10-year Matt Doherty sell-on 'ticket'. It will be worth close to €2m when deal is completed. Sweet compensation for the agonising EL loss on Thur night.

With a great friend and colleague Paul ‘Buttsie’ Buttner at ‘Dalyer’ for ⁦@bfcdublin⁩ v ⁦@sligorovers⁩ on 2024 @leagueofireland opening night. We reckon we’re on 40+ years together in the press trenches.
