On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger delivered an order to finally enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing 250,000 enslaved Black Texans. Today, we celebrate that freedom and recommit to today’s fight for justice and equality. Happy Juneteenth!

Today, I led the @HouseDemocrats in wearing orange to honor Hadiya Pendleton and every life stolen by gun violence. Orange was Hadiya's favorite color, and now, it's a bright beacon for gun violence awareness. We owe survivors more than thoughts & prayers. We owe them action.

Just in: @JudiciaryGOP rules that @RepHankJohnson's #SCOTUS term limits bill tacked on to the Keep 9 amendment isn't germane, meaning no vote. But if you're capping #SCOTUS at 9 in a const. amendment, then of course you could add term limits for those 9 to the text. Unreal.

Facts matter. Using the traveling public as test subjects is not how we determine whether or not heavier trucks are more dangerous. We know that heavier trucks have higher crash rates, and we must not sacrifice public safety for the sake of expediency.

We have to view this attack on the Southern Poverty Law Center for what it is: an Authoritarian’s attempt to silence law firms, universities, comedians, news outlets, protesters, and public servants who disagree with this Administration by choking off their source of funds.
