🚨BREAKING: The House of Lords has voted to remove clause 9 of the Nationality and Borders Bill, which seeks to create new powers to strip British nationals of their citizenship without even telling them. This is a huge win. 1/3

🚨BREAKING: Oldest Guantánamo detainee released after almost 20 years detained without charge or trial. This is a huge win but Saifullah Paracha, 75, returns to his family a frail old man, after being taken in the prime of his life. That injustice can never be rectified. 🧵

BREAKING: Nagaenthran Dharmalingam has been executed. His name will go down in history as the victim of a tragic miscarriage of justice. Hanging an intellectually disabled man because he was coerced into carrying less than 3 tablespoons of diamorphine is clearly unjustifiable🧵

Thank you to everyone who has helped campaign against clause 9 and to all of the Peers who voted to remove it, including Baroness D'Souza, @SayeedaWarsi and Baroness Mobarik who made this intervention today. 3/3

MPs must follow suit and strike this discriminatory provision from the Bill. Citizenship stripping disproportionately affects ethnic minority British communities, who are made to feel like second class citizens. 2/3

Ahmed Rabbani faced the greatest injustice. The CIA mistook him for someone else and tortured him for 545 days. He remains in #Guantanamo today even though the person the CIA were looking for was found and released. Ahmed has been on a hunger strike since July 3.

🚨BREAKING: Saudi Arabia’s Court of Appeal has decided to uphold a death sentence for child defendant Abdullah al-Howaiti. The Saudi justice system continues to rely on the torture-induced 'confession' of a 14-year-old boy to convict him for a crime he could not have committed🧵

BREAKING: Our client Abdul Latif Nasser has been released from #Guantanamo. He was cleared for release on July 11, 2016 - more than 5 years ago. Today, he is finally back on Moroccan soil. This wouldn't have happened without the campaigning of this community. Thank you. 🧡

🚨BREAKING: Our client, Jagtar Singh Johal, is taking the UK Government to court. We've uncovered critical information that MI5 & MI6 might have shared information about Jagtar that led to his unlawful arrest and torture in India. #FreeJaggiNow A THREAD🧵

Jagtar Singh Johal: Briton tortured after spy chiefs’ tip-off
MI5 and MI6 spies supplied information that led to the torture of a British citizen in India, apparently in breach of Britain’s commitment to human rights.

Thank you to everyone who helped campaign for Saifullah’s release. He once described life at Guantánamo as “being alive in your own grave”. US embrace of indefinite detention without trial has done lasting damage. We can only begin to repair it when we #CloseGuantánamo

British man Jagtar Singh Johal was abducted by plainclothes police officers in India and tortured until he ‘confessed’. The Indian Government is trying to portray Jagtar as a violent extremist but the reality is that his forced ‘confession’ is the only evidence used against him.
