  • Exactly the kind of thing you would be asked to avoid in 3D animation now. “Can’t we just have him reach for the jacket and then cut to him outside wearing the jacket?”

  • I don't see how it wouldn't be easier to get that look of golden era 2D animation by....um....just animating 2D.

So beautiful. Does not deserve the abomination to come.

So many CG films depend on 2D animators providing animation like this. Sometimes it's called 2D blocking.

Can you imagine Moana done completely hand drawn? Well we can! Check out this Maui animation test by Randy Haycock!

When I was at CalArts, someone had a copy of the WIP of Thief and the Cobbler before Disney got ahold of it and turned it into the Cobbler and the Princess. When he fans out the cards here, if you freeze frame, all 52 cards are there. Individually hand drawn 🤯

I hardly see people bring up Richard Williams, he's the GOD of animation like how do you even animate something with this much detail

Can’t even begin to tell you how impossible it would be to get something like this made in the US. The amount of executive meddling would slowly suffocate any originality out of this.

Can we get back to animating traditionally and then color like Klaus so everyone thinks it’s 3D?

  • I feel like the future of animation looks a lot like Digital Circus and Hazbin Hotel in that they're creator driven, fan funded. Feels like a more organic way to have original content where the big studios only really seem interested in strip mining their existing IP.
