- I don’t need to hear about all the despicable folk. They’re loud and easy to see through. Instead, show me the good people quietly going about their business. They are ones I will follow. They are the magic in the world.
- Took both my wife and mother to dinner tonight and we all ordered martinis. As it turns out, only one of us learned to imbibe with the likes of Sinatra, Bogie and Bacall. Well played, Mom. Well played.

- Went to the 6th grade open house and saw a sign up sheet for Room Parent. No one was signing up, so I did. Suddenly, all of the other parents, starting with my wife, were like “You??” And just like that I’m the star of a Jack Black movie.

- Question for my Twitter pals: I’ve hired many smart, kind, talented and accomplished people over the years. I have no idea where any of them went to college. Not a one. I never asked and never cared. Am I an anomaly? Asking as a dad with a kid killing himself to get into college.
- So many of you have sent such kind wishes to my mom on her birthday yesterday (91!) and I wanted you to know that I’ve passed them all along to her and she said “Well, isn’t that nice. I guess I’ll have some more cake then.” Thanks.
- ...I tried to catch him of course. I always tried to catch him. But I never could. Now, I will carry him, along with all of the funny/sad/extraordinary days we shared, none more filled with love than these last few at his side.
- My family haven’t come home for dinner because, as my wife texted, they “must save a baby owl.” Huh?? And then the sent me this picture.

- Wife’s out of town and I’m solo babysitting the five yr old son of a friend tonight. Our convo 2 seconds ago: “So, how about I make us a pizza then we watch a movie?” The kid looks at me hard for what seems like an eternity, then: “You’re the best, dude.” Life is good.
- Actual convo with my mother just now: “The world is wishing you a happy birthday today, Mom.” She reacts. “They are?” “Yes.” “Why?” “Because people love you.” “They do?” “Yes.” She considers this a beat. “Well, that’s pretty wonderful.”
