The ideological position of winners under different voting systems, shown in 2 dimensions. Along the left you can see, FPP, FPP with a primary, and RCV (in order).

Basil. You know how sometimes people "clean" their hard drive Your hard drive is beyond cleaning. It needs to be buried thousands of feet below the earth, encased in concrete, and clearly marked as toxic so no future civilization will ever have the misfortune of coming across it

The more Black people support a policy in the U.S., the *lower* the likelihood that U.S. institutions write that policy into law. vox.com/2015/6/13/8768…

The above tweet is incorrect and misinterprets the data. The is caused by a well-known statistical phenomenon called Berkson's paradox. Dropping cases where black & white voters agree on policy means that overall public opinion becomes a confounding variable. x.com/StatsLime/stat… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkson's…

They're mad because they're misunderstanding the statement as universalism, which would actually be a massive reversal of Catholic theology Catholicism teaches that everyone *can* be saved if they repent (the ideal), but not that everyone will necessarily be saved (universalism)

In the early 2010s it was still illegal to marry someone of the same sex in most of the country "c'mon, they can't have been *that* homophobic"--California held a referendum specifically to cancel all the gay marriages they'd had. it passed. In CALIFORNIA.

Wouldn’t work. The problem isn’t the material; even ones made if hardened steel will break easily. The problem is that the walls are very thin, because you just can’t fit enough metal in a 2 inch box for a 6 foot staff that won’t snap instantly.

They're conditioning on substantial disagreement between whites and blacks, which creates a negative correlation between black and white public opinion. Then, b/c there's more whites than blacks, the slope just reflects that more popular policies are more likely to pass.
