If there is a public library nearby to you, & you have never been, please go; it’s free. You can sit, relax, & use wifi without being chased away. We want you there. You can connect with others. Learn a new skill. Practice your English. Get help with your reading in a safe place.

Please, If you are a Library who turns off the WiFi, Please stop. It’s cruel. There really is no justifiable reason. Please tell me why this is necessary. If you work at a Library that does this, stand up for your people. All of your people. Please. Unhoused people deserve WiFi

You read Audiobooks. Audiobooks are read. Reading does not occur in the eyeballs. Reading occurs in the brain. People can use their eyeballs to read. People can use their fingers to read. People can use their ears to read. It’s all reading! Any definition otherwise is ableist. 📚

There are a pair of kids that a Mom drops off every Saturday at 10am when we open, & does not return until 5pm when we close. The boy is seven. The girl is five. My Library is over ten thousand square feet. Attached to a recreational complex. Not to mention the parks, transit way

Leaving children alone at the library isn’t about the Mom it’s about the kids, whom I cannot protect from hurt, molestation, indecent exposure, kidnapping, or other catastrophic failures of society. Having to help a girl who was raped at my Library is not a pleasant memory I have

“Libraries don’t hire normal people.” Know what, Motherfucker—? You’re right!!! We are goddamn exceptional. We are pretty fucking special. Rather remarkable even. Everyday we save people’s lives. The Library is special. Library Staff matter. Normal? Who wants to be normal.

Will literally remove the vagus nerve from anybody hating on my boy, Mychal, or anybody else doing the good work. Do you know how many lives he has saved? How many kids felt a little safer, felt a little more seen because of his warm, welcoming presence? The Library is a refuge.

As a Librarian, I am begging you: if you love Libraries, care about Democracy, support the freedom to read, hate fascists, please get vocal/active in your support of Libraries, & Librarians because we, which means our Patrons too, have become a target for violence from extremists

Dear people paying for Audible, You can get books to read for free from your local Public Library, or even one not so local…many give cards out for free online. Stop paying Amazon to get to read audiobooks, when you can support a Library who will loan it to you for free! 🖤📚🎧
