So odd. I’m 76. I don’t feel like I’m 76. I feel like I’m 18 - but have lived a life. A fortunate life. I think of those 18 year olds in all the wars who stayed forever 18 and never had a life. Thank you all for your birthday wishes from this 18 year old who got to have a life.

- After being a member for 30 years I’m embarrassed to be associated with the Oscars telecast. Not because of “The Slap” but because of the phoniness of the show. All I sense is a desperate attempt to get more viewers by any means possible, not a show about the love of making movies
- In my opinion we need to realize that Trump is now legitimately mentally ill. His behavior this week has crossed the line into Dr Strangelove-land. I’m not trying to be funny or political. I truly think he needs help.
- My daddy you are???For all those wondering, this is my son Yoda. We share no blood but he is my life. He came from Dagobah (legally, of course) six years ago and lives with me in Malibu. I am so proud of him and raising him has been the best, most rewarding thing I’ve done in my life.
GIF - Yes I identified most with Grover and Fozzie, but there are bits of me in all of my characters. Me being boring is Bert, me pure is Grover, me obsessed-Cookie, me neurotic-Piggy, me insecure-Fozzie, me uptight-Sam, me crazed-Animal. I'm a bit like each of them. And so are you.
- Some people think The Muppets are for children. Nope. I never once had the kids in mind when I performed. I mean, what’s the difference between performing for kids and performing for adults, anyway? We were adults and we had fun performing as adults. And the kids got it.
- I’m very disappointed that Nick Sandmann has no intention of apologizing because he says he had every right to stand there. I hope, as he grows older, that he will understand it’s not about having the right. It’s about doing the right thing.
- I've been friends with Mark & Marilou Hamill for about 40 years--since EMPIRE. He's the real deal. His tweets in support of a humane and lawful democracy during this country's difficult times have been an oasis and a salve for all empathetic and principled people. Thanks Mark.
- It seems Mr. Mark Saltzman was asked if Bert & Ernie are gay. It's fine that he feels they are. They're not, of course. But why that question? Does it really matter? Why the need to define people as only gay? There's much more to a human being than just straightness or gayness.
- A last thought: If Jim and I had created B & E as gay characters they would be inauthentic coming from two straight men. However, I have now learned that many view them as representative of a loving gay relationship. And that’s pretty wonderful. Thanks for helping me understand.
- I’ve received so many Happy Birthday greetings. Thank you all. You know, it’s weird to be 77. You know what’s more weird? In the blink of an eye you’ll be 77 too. Oh yes you will. And it’s okay. I don’t even think about age. We’re all much more than numbers.
- CONFESSION: In my 20’s I joked about “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood” being so bland and “kidsy” and “unhip”. Then years later when life became more complicated and I was battling my inner demons, I would watch him because he would always make me feel better about myself.
- Almost 50 years ago Carrol was working with Jim on Oscar’s voice in the small Muppets Studio on 53rd Street and 2nd ave in NYC. But it was Big Bird who grew into being the character most emblematic of Sesame Street. And Carrol’s spirit made that happen. What an amazing legacy.
- Sesame Street. Early '70’s. We're rehearsing a “Rapunzel” sketch. Jon Stone directing. We're screwing around. Tears in our eyes from laughing. I shout to Jon, “What are we teaching?” Jon shouts back,”Who cares!” And he was right. Sometimes just having fun has value all it’s own.
