I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died.
He slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls.
Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye.”

Gardener, writer & broadcaster. I am afraid that I do not answer gardening queries via Twitter!
- To bring some joy to these sad days - yesterday I went and chose the new member of our family who will join us at the end of next week.
- It would have been Nigel’s 12 birthday today. I shall raise a glass in celebration of his life.
- My granddaughter Daisy - slightly bemused by sun hat and being cuddled by strange man but strange man could not be happier.
- This picture of Nigel was taken a year ago and then he died a few hours later. I believe his life was good to the very end.
- I am afraid to tell you that my dear, lovely Nell died last night. She was diagnosed with cancer in June ( which is why she barely appeared on tv) and went rapidly downhill in the past few weeks. She is buried in the garden next to Nigel.
- Thanks to all that have sent so many lovely and kind messages about Nigel. It has meant a great deal. I have posted many more pictures of him on my website montydon.com. He is now in the garden and of the garden and we will celebrate his good life by living well.
- Ned is hogging the limelight at the moment but today is Nellie's birthday. She is 7.
- Ned makes his Gardeners World debut tomorrow night at 8pm. I believe there also might be smattering of gardening involved too.
