Fact: According Shigeru Miyamoto, there is only one Mario. Unlike the various heroes in The Legend of Zelda series, we follow the same Mario’s story throughout all of the games he appears in.
Fact: Mario is in love with Princess Peach and is always there to help her when she’s in trouble.
Similarly, Princess Peach is smitten with Mario, often inviting him on dates with her. She relies on him when she’s in danger and thinks of him in times of peril.
Fact: According to Super Mario Run, the domed hills characteristic of the Mushroom Kingdom are large pillars covered in different things such as leaves, flowers or fruit. Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Mario Tennis Open depict them as being concealed, large rock pillars as well.
Fact: In Mario Party 9, five bananas can merge together to form a single Power Star.
It appears that, much like Power Moons, bananas are Power Stars in a different shape, explaining their ability to float and other magical properties.
Fact: A large portion of the creatures Mario encounters in Super Mario Sunshine aren’t real, but rather paint creations of Shadow Mario’s magic brush.
This is why they spawn from paint, have childish appearances and often look different than their counterparts in other games.
Fact: In a previous post it was explained that there are three "Donkey Kongs", Donkey Kong the First, Donkey Kong Jr. and Donkey Kong. Each of these characters has a distinct appearance.
We’ve created an illustration showcasing the physical differences between these characters.
Fact: The Mario Bros.' House in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions features several details from other games throughout it, with examples including items from the Mario Kart series or the Fungi Light from Mario’s Pad in Super Mario RPG.
Fact: Princess Peach is a magic user who utilises wish power to perform various abilities, such as levitation or healing.
In Super Mario Bros., Bowser kidnapped Peach to prevent her from using her power to break the spell his army had placed on the Mushroom People.
Magikoopa wands likely make use of Power Star magic to allow them to cast their spells, as we can see from Kamella’s battle in Super Mario Galaxy.
This magic is typically characterised by a circle, triangle and square, though more “magic symbols” are seen in Mario Party DS.
Fact: The Super Crown is an ancient legendary crown that was housed deep within the Grand Labyrinth in the Mushroom Kingdom until Toadette and the rest of the Toad Brigade found it.
Toadette is the only one who can use the crown, causing her to transform into Peachette.
Fact: According to the manual of Super Mario World, Thwomps are a type of ghost.
This explains why a younger Professor E. Gadd can be seen studying the origins of Thwomps on Thwomp Volcano in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.
Fact: Cranky Kong, the grandfather of the current Donkey Kong who stars in Donkey Kong Country, is actually an aged version of the original Donkey Kong who fought Mario back in the Donkey Kong arcade game (1981) and Donkey Kong Game Boy game (1994).
Fact: Mario likes to put his hat through the washing machine, while Luigi prefers to wash his hat by hand, considering Mario’s preference to be careless.
Despite this, Luigi hangs up Mario’s laundry, including his hat, to dry in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.
