Interested in our plans for Ontario Place’s West Island? See how we're working together to create an Ontario Place for Everyone: ontarioplace.thermecanada.com
What was originally designed as a beach by Michael Hough is now filled with rubble and is inaccessible and unsafe. We will honour Hough’s original vision and create a clean, accessible and beautiful beach upwards of 10x bigger than the beach on the south side of the island now.
You shouldn’t need to own a cottage to enjoy the waterfront! Our plan delivers more public places to have fun or relax by the water for everyone. It will offer affordable recreational activities, public change rooms, cafes, keep bathrooms clean and open year-round.
Our proposal to revitalize Ontario Place’s West Island is up for discussion before the Toronto and East York Community Council. Our plan will create a new public, 12-acre urban park with a beach and improve public access to the waterfront.
A year-round wellbeing and entertainment destination is coming to Ontario Place! A new public park and beach, and activities for all ages – Therme Canada | Ontario Place will reinvigorate the waterfront and reconnect people with Lake Ontario in every season. #ontarioplace

Did you know that the south shore of Ontario Place was created by lakefilling in the late 1960’s?
The shore is eroding, and the status quo is unsustainable. Learn more about our plans to reinforce the shoreline here:
We are committed to optimizing views of Zeidler’s iconic Cinesphere.
Shadi Gilani, principal landscape architect and urban designer at STUDIO tla, speaks about our plans to do so here:
Ontario Place’s West Island can be improved. The soil is contaminated. Too much of the area is paved and old fast-food franchises sit empty. That’s why we are investing in building more parkland and an expanded shoreline for everyone to enjoy year-round.
Ontario Place's West Island has fallen into disrepair. Our proposal will invest ~ $100m in a public beach, 12 acres of public parkland, waterfront trails, all publicly accessible and maintained year-round at no cost to the city.
Welcome to Therme Canada | Ontario Place, a landmark entertainment and wellbeing destination with a public beach, parkland, and cultural hub on the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto.
A place for families & individuals of all ages to reconnect with the waterfront all year-round.
There have been no ties of any kind or business dealings between Therme and Ares Management or its subsidiaries. Suggestions that Therme has been involved in any unethical or improper activity are entirely false and defamatory.
We’ll be creating new waterfront green spaces that will be public and accessible, year-round. More beach for swimmers, new gathering spaces, expanded public parkland and improved pedestrian and cycling trails.
