Hard to fathom that it’s been a whole year since one of the worst tornado outbreaks in modern history put our nation’s resilience to the ultimate test.
89 lives lost
672 injured
$3.9 billion in damages
12/10/21, a day we will never forget…💔

Right: Andover, KS (4/29/2022)
Let this serve as a reminder that a tornado doesn’t have to be a mile-wide wedge to be violent…
I have yet to see motion from a tornado as violent as this. Still so far away, with 1999-level footage at the time.
The Bridge Creek/Moore, OK F5 was a true monster, and by most accounts *THE* F5.
Other EF5 contenders to reanalyze:
New Wren, MS 2011
Chickasha, OK 2011
Goldsby, OK 2011
Washington, IL 2013
Pilger, NE 2014
Stanton, NE 2014
Vilonia, AR 2014
Louisville, MS 2014
Rochelle, IL 2015
Chapman, KS 2016
Bassfield, MS 2020
Mayfield, KY 2021
Rolling Fork, MS 2023

Same towns, similar times, similar tornadoes. History nearly repeated itself tonight.
*141 kts VROT on the tornado near Hollister and Loveland, OK*
Officially the 2nd highest behind… the 2013 El Reno, OK tornado with 149 kts VROT.
A truly incredible, violent tornado in an unassuming environment/setup.
Barnsdall, OK was a victim of some incredibly unfortunate timing here.
Just a few minutes later and that supercell would’ve gotten engulfed by the bow echo, choking out the tornado.
The difference in times you ask?
The Arnett tornado on 5/4/2007 occurred at around 5:45 pm. The one today occurred at 5:52 pm.
The Greensburg, KS tornado on 5/4/2007 formed at 9:03 pm and dissipated at 10:05 pm. The one today formed at ~9:20 pm and dissipated at ~10:05 pm.

Here’s my two cents:
For some reason, the Diaz, AR tornado finally being the tornado to (potentially/hypothetically) end the EF5 drought feels strange to me.
Let me explain. x.com/tornadowis/sta…
Went offline for two hours, and I’ve come back to videos of violent wedges, reports of a quad-state tornado, and now this horrific situation in Mayfield, KY.
Forget “living up to expectation,” this just went historic. I can only pray that people are safe.
