Italian F-35-capable LHD Trieste commissioned into the Italian Navy today. Trieste replaces ITS Guiseppe Garibaldi and will serve alongside light aircraft carrier ITS Cavour. The ship comes in at 39,000 tonnes, and features a twin-island design similar to the QE-class.

A UK F-35B has made an emergency landing at Kagoshima Airport in Japan due to a "possible mechanical problem." Unclear whether the jet was operating from HMS Prince of Wales or if it had detached for Operation: Hightower. Not a good look. (Src: nhk.or.jp)

UK and USMC F-35B operating from HMS Prince of Wales have cross decked onto JS Kaga. Japan only received it's initial F-35B delivery of 3 jets days ago, and does not yet have the numbers for an air wing. (Src: @COMUKCSG)

As the situation in the Middle East escalates, a reminder that HMS Duncan is in the East Med and can coordinate Typhoons flying from Cyprus to down missiles and drones fired by Hezbollah and Iran. RFA Mounts Bay is at sea, and is ready to evacuate British nationals from Lebanon.

New reformatted Fleet Tracker - aiming to be clearer and much more concise. Hope you don't mind me taking some inspiration on style @ianellisjones. Littoral Response Group (South) returning to the UK via the Cape of Good Hope, making port calls into the Maldives and Cape Town.

Two RAF Voyager tankers were spray-painted by pro-Palestinian activists that broke into RAF Brize Norton last night. Completely foolish to risk an element of UK national security for the means of ‘protest.’ Equally shocking RAF airfield security remains so poor. (Src/img: BBC)

HMS Richmond has recieved a replenishment-at-sea from JS Kaga. Carriers replenishing surface escorts is relatively common practice in the US and Japanese navies, although the QE class lack that capability. (Src: defenceimagery.mod.uk)

Some terribly sad news this afternoon. Despite the best efforts of the RNLI, Irish Coast Guard and Royal Navy, the search for the missing sailor from RFA Tidesurge has now been called off. The sailor was reported missing on Friday evening.

As much as the frigate gap is an issue, the retirement of HMS Northumberland is the correct decision. The ship was in awful condition and her replacement (Cardiff) is already launched and will be in service 2028. We are only down 2 ASW frigates, albeit GPs have suffered worse.
