We've had feedback over the last week that some people are unhappy with our plan to offer up to 14 scholarships to refugees living in the local area. To these people, we would like to say: Tough. Jog on. rdg.ac/2MIc7PZ

In this experiment Dr Rob Thompson of @UniRdg_Met shows just how long it takes water to soak into parched ground, illustrating why heavy rainfall after a #drought can be dangerous and might lead to flashfloods. @R0b1et @UniRdg_water

Good morning to everyone except people who think you can make our academics and researchers change their expert opinion about something by complaining to us on twitter ๐Ÿ˜˜
people writing that the university should fire me because I said Nigel Farage was a disgrace comparing #BlackLivesMattters, a movement of peace and justice, to the Taliban and because I said the statue of a slave trader belonged in the sea, thanks guys, will let the VC know.

    Readers added context
Reading University have not issued such a denial, as they have no involvement with cloud seeding in the UAE. The article has misinterpreted an interview where an expert provide evidence-based comments on the flooding. reading.ac.uk/news/2024/Expeโ€ฆ x.com/uniofreading/sโ€ฆ

When you don't like @KateWilliamsme opinion as a historian and Professor at @UniRdg_History so you demand to speak to a manager, but the manager backs his colleague 100%. Academic freedom and respect for experts? We do love to see it.
Thanks for letting me know Kate. Sometimes, free speech and academic freedom are just too much for some people. Not for me. Carry on.

This isn't 'woke'. Telling people about potentially upsetting content in advance is a basic courtesy that allows us to study and discuss hard topics sensitively.
Fury as University of Reading students are issued with 'woke' trigger warnings if classes contain 'distressing' content trib.al/1scXzTh

No food market today because of high winds. Actually, this account always gets the blame for things outside our control so, why not, let's own this one. The social media team unilaterally cancelled the food market because we don't want anyone to be happy.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the terrible incident in Reading town centre this evening. Please stay safe tonight. Reading is strong and we will stand together.

We've been asked why we're making a political statement by providing free meals. To clarify: this isn't about politics. This is about kids who are hungry. As a university, we have resources we can use to help. It's not rocket science, it's being a good neighbour.
Times are tough. More of us are struggling to make ends meet and the pandemic isnโ€™t helping. So as part of the national campaign started by @MarcusRashford, weโ€™re working with @ReadingCouncil and @BFfC_Child to make sure no child goes hungry this half term. #EndChildFoodPoverty

Yeah, poor planning by those refugees to... *checks notes* ...flee in desperation to try and rebuild their lives in a new country and then learn a new language to get by
