New Haven is not Torrington. Greenwich is not Waterbury. Hartford is not Monroe. The very premise of zoning is that different communities have different needs and different priorities, and this bill ignores that entirely. H.B. 5002 is an assault on the tradition of local control

H.B. 5002 centralizes zoning in Hartford, stripping CT towns of autonomy. And it completely ignores local needs. This is a bad bill and will be a bad law. #CTPolitics

In Connecticut, state employees are retiring with pension benefits higher than their last salary. How? It’s a classic scheme known as “spiking.” @RedJahncke @thehill

A Bridgeport senator said what happened in a recent absentee ballot scandal is "happening across many of our towns." However, the comment received little-to-no attention from other reps. But our Meghan Portfolio is on top of the story. Learn more 👇 yankeeinstitute.org/2023/09/29/wha…

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu announced that NH will not be participating in the Transportation & Climate Initiative (TCI). Under this scheme, New Hampshire drivers would be forced to pay a significant new gas tax with little environmental benefit to the state.

“The Connecticut legislature is advancing a bill that will place a fourth tax on gasoline, new taxes on diesel fuel and a first time ever tax on heating fuel along with every fuel used in this state.” @ct_investigator

The most serious labor shortage Connecticut faces is the lack of senators and representatives willing to do their jobs in Hartford. If the emergency powers are extended, the paychecks of every state legislator should be withheld until those emergency powers expire.

Gov. Ned Lamont says a possible extension of his emergency powers under discussion. The current public health and civil preparedness emergency declarations expire Feb. 15. The legislature would have to OK another extension.

President Carol Platt Liebau,“It’s time to stop blaming the cold New England winters, the Cold War ending, the Whalers leaving or any other external factor. This is Hartford’s fault. They broke it and they have to fix it — for the struggling families of Connecticut.” #CTPolitics
