Something I have always wanted to do is write a book. So I did. Super proud to release my first book: Basketball Analytics 101: Methods and Tools to Effectively Incorporate Basketball Analytics For Any Team
High school basketball desperately needs a shot clock, but right behind that is a charge circle. It’s insane how many bad charges are called with a guy right under the basket. It’s not defense and it’s bad for basketball
When a coach tells a player to be aggressive they don’t just mean take more shots…
Sprint the floor in transition
Hunt the paint
Catch ready to shoot or drive
Get a teammate open
Be active on the ball
Rebound out of your area
Get to help early
Heard a coach say this is the difference between being an assistant coach and a head coach:
After a loss the assistant goes home and sleeps. The head coach goes home and assumes the fetal position, cries a little and replays everything 100x before going to sleep.
So true 😂💀
I’m all for fun but saw something that was totally refreshing (in an AAU game no less)
Kid had about 25 points & after each time he scored there were no arrows, no injections, no fingers to the dome, no hitting the griddy…nothing
He simply ran back & played defense 🤯😂
The coaching profession is so weird. Never know who will get the opportunity. In 2015 I sat next to Joe Mazzula at a coaching clinic and he was asking me about offense. Kinda cool. Happy for him!
Dear adults in the basketball world,
I swear it’s okay just to help kids without having to brag about it, demean others, or get something in return. Just help people because it’s the right thing to do.
Heard an AD recently say in a podcast something along the lines of “Don’t be in such a hurry to be a head coach that you forget to first become a good coach.”
Then he went on to say similar about being in such a hurry to get to a certain level, position etc.
Good advice
I’ve watched hundreds of AAU games this summer. I feel like 2 things would help like 90% of offenses at this level:
1. Immediately sprint back out to space after pass on a drive into paint
2. Don’t re-drive a drive into the same gap. Shoot, swing it or at least drive opposite
🚨 DRILL OF THE DAY 🚨
⚫️FACING 1 on 1 (thanks @BBallImmersion)
🔘Toss to either player, that player becomes offense, the other defense
🔘Attack on the catch & get the ball to the floor quickly
🔘Must finish vs live defender
⚪️Excuse the grainy video. Asst must use Android 😂
