And so here it is, made possible by all of you: A book about a field that has been attempting to define itself for more than a century -- and the next generation's place in it. You can find it on Columbia's website (cup.columbia.edu/book/so-you-wa…) as well as other popular retailers!

Seven years ago, I asked someone out because she seemed clever (I had no idea how much), beautiful (I had no idea to what extent), and kind (again, little did I know.) And now, two PhDs, two years of long-distance, & many, many moments of joy later... ... we're engaged! 🎉

I love Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson but I think we need fresh, maybe even *female* faces of science communication. #scicomm #isaidit

In 1939, Hodgkin & Huxley conducted the first, long-awaited recording of an intracellular action potential. Shortly after, Hitler invaded Poland, and Hodgkin & Huxley were forced to leave the lab and join the WWII effort. (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…)

UCSD now requires postdocs to complete timesheets. This is insane, right? Do other universities have postdocs log their time?

A student emailed me "You always seem so cheerful and healthy. How do you do it?" on a day when I collapsed on the couch at 2 pm, completely burnt out and feeling like a total failure, to play video games and watch movies for the rest of the evening.

We know that coding knowledge is useful in neuroscience research, but how do we train our students when few bio instructors are proficient in coding and C.S. classes are full? 🤔 I tackle these issues in this NeuroView for @NeuroCellPress! authors.elsevier.com/a/1eOdV3BtfGzl…

Dear PIs, toxic mentors in your lab are your responsibility. Please do something. Signed, a young female faculty member who hears from the trainees in your lab because they don’t know who else to talk to.

A student just came up to me at the coffee cart to ask about his classroom location because "you look like a professor here" and this is the first time anyone has ever said this to me 😭😭😭

It's about time that I shared some exciting news -- I'm writing a book! It is tentatively titled, "So you want to be a neuroscientist?" My hope is that it will offer aspiring neuroscientists honest, informative insight about our field as well as education and careers in it.

The cat is increasingly out of the bag. So. Starting this fall, I’ll be an Assistant Teaching Professor in Biological Sciences at UC San Diego. :)

First surf as a tenured professor, along the same coastline that first captured my imagination as a graduate student. This can’t be real life.

Yaaaay my first education publication is live! It describes a lesson plan to use @AllenInstitute resources to introduce students to electrophysiological cell types, coding, and harvesting open access data. funjournal.org/wp-content/upl… (via @FUNfaculty)
