Something to consider: If you hate wearing a #mask in public, you’re really not going to like the ventilator in the ICU. #COVID19

The fact that cruises are departing at this moment shows that the Federal government is not taking #COVID19 seriously enough. #coronavirus #pandemicpreparedness

Cutting funding on bat-human research is INSANE. This type of research is literally how we know at all that this virus came from bats. And there are a lot more bat coronaviruses out there that have not been studied yet. They could become the Covid-20, Covid-21, Covid-22 and so on

My @UCLADRC team and I have been working with colleagues at @inrb_kinshasa, @esp_unikin #DRC MoH and many terrific collaborators for 2 decades on human #monkeypox and the impact of waning vaccine induced immunity. See relevant 2010 #PNAS paper.

Agree with @EricTopol 100%. We need to understand transmission real risk of infection, potential for transmission in household settings and in general. Delta has changed the game- we need to get in front of it instead of constantly chasing behind it.

On May 1 @CDCgov stopped tracking breakthrough infections unless hospitalized. That was a mistake then, but with the increased risk posed by Delta, it's more serious. Complete tracking needs to be reinstated, w/ demographics, PCR Ct results, samples for neutralizing antibodies...

A reminder that #COVID19 isn't just about mortality. There is potential for longer term consequences. Recent research suggesting more than half of #coronavirus patients in #Spain have developed neurological problems: english.elpais.com/science_tech/2… via @elpaisinenglish

The @CDCgov just issued a revised doc emphasizing importance of #ReopeningSchools. Where is the science? Where are the data? Nothing on risks to staff/teachers, guidance on opening in areas of high #COVID transmission. What happens when outbreaks inevitably occur? Grade: D-

Up to 25% of people with #COVID19 may not show symptoms. The case for #keepingyourdropletstoyourself is clear. Wearing a face covering /mask in addition to social distancing and hand hygiene will help #FlattenTheCurve.

Here’s the thing: when it comes to #COVID19 - what happens in Vegas does NOT stay in Vegas. No masks, no social distancing and crowding indoors ... perfect conditions for transmission that could seed outbreaks.

Reminder that testing #COVID19 negative today does not mean that those exposed to #POTUS/#FLOTUS/Hope Hicks are in the clear. @CDCgov guidelines are to quarantine for 14 days bkz testing is imperfect & infected individuals are most likely to test positive 5-8 days post-exposure.

The key message: 1) Stay home! 2) Wash your hands frequently 3) don't touch your face 4) And if you cannot stay home because you need groceries or are an essential worker etc-wear a mouth-covering that will help keep your droplets to yourself. #COVID19 #keepyourdropletstoyouself

Ebola expert @arimoin coined, "Keep your droplets to yourself!" That's a great way to describe every person's responsibility in the #COVID19 #pandemic . That's ALL droplets, from tears to spit to coughed stuff on down. A mask helps, but staying away from others? Even better.

We can turn a terrible situation into a learning experience that can save lives. Understanding who, how, where, why and when #SARSCoV2 was introduced to #WhiteHouse and track #COVID19 cases via #sequencing can provide critical information to prevent future #superspreading events.

A new #Ebola outbreak has bren confirmed in northwestern #DRC near the port city of Mbandaka.-same region where the 2018 outbreak occurred. This underscores the importance of @WHO in this critical moment. We need to support #WHO now more than ever.
