Hundreds showed up to protest @WashU's ties to @Boeing amid the war in Gaza today. Now, as @erjlee documents, mass arrests have begun by campus and local police. Stay tuned to @stlpublicradio for more soon.

Unpaid internships are how industries systemically keep marginalized communities out of them. I'm going to share a personal anecdote that absolutely no one asked for, but I hope people take it for what it's worth. (🧵)

Sad day in Southern Illinois: The historic @DairyQueen location in #CarbondaleIL has had its franchise license pulled by corporate as DQ pushes its "Next Gen Design." Decades of @SIUC alumni will remember the iconic ice cream shop, whose owner has vowed to reopen independently.

Anti-war protestors at @WUSTL were arrested after confrontation with police during a demonstration asking the private university to sever ties with @Boeing. The latest by @stlpublicradio’s @Will_Bauer_, @ulaakuz, @larafaiham, and @erjlee.
St. Louis County Police arrest a protestor on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Washington University. Protestors marched through campus and set up an encampment in response to the university's ties to Boeing, the supplier of many weapons to Israel used in the Gaza war.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when journalists from big cities look down at those who aren't in them. There are so many incredibly talented reporters in smaller communities and living in [insert major-metro] doesn't make you inherently "better."

The police, from what I've heard, told folks they were trespassing on private property because Washington University is a private university.

A white SUV speeds down Highway 40, next to a green sign that reads "Washington University — Next Right." The vehicle is pulling a sled with a person on it.
