    This trend of firing coaches as they leave the floor is totally disgusting. All coaches know if we don’t win enough this is coming, but could it not wait until at least after the press conference? What is the purpose other than to completely humiliate the coach and his team? Smh

    Sports are really important for kids. Right or wrong, sports are the main motivating factor for many kids to do their best academically in high school. They also teach kids lessons in teamwork & work ethic that are invaluable. Hoping this is taken into consideration by the state!

    Being a head coach means you worry about 20 or so sons at once, plus another 70 (and counting) that have graduated but you still worry about too. You never really “turn it off” in your mind. Can get very tiring and frustrating at times, but wouldn’t want any other job.

    It bothers me when a D1 assistant (often only in his 20s or 30s) acts like coaching at his level is so far above anything me or our players could comprehend. Reality is, I’ve seen high school coaches & lower level college guys coach circles around how I see a lot of D1’s playing.

    Been coaching 20 years. High school basketball has always been about teaching young people lessons like teamwork, sacrifice, accountability, etc., that prepare them to be successful in life. Too many adults these days are bombarding kids with messages of selfishness & negativity.

    Rick Pitino is a defensive mastermind. How you effectively teach man fullcourt trapping pressure… into a matchup 2-3 zone… which will then flip into man in the middle of a possession when the ball hits a certain area of the floor… is beyond me.

    A consequence of our American “system” of playing 4+ games every weekend to every 1 practice / skill development session from the 1st grade on. Our priority is making adults money at countless weekend tournaments around the country at all levels, not development, & it’s showing.

    Turkey defeats USA in the third place game of the U19 World Cup. Led from start to finish and were clearly the better team. Bigger, smarter, more skilled, better organized. Big wakeup call for USA Basketball. Will have to recruit and prepare better. Talent gap has been erased.

    Eye contact with your coach matters. If the NBA champs do it, why would a high school player not?

    How many high school guys that want to be NCAA players are ok with getting coaches like this? Got to have thick skin as a player... the game is intense! And Coach Smart is known as a “player’s coach” too!
