00:00 - It's actually hard to describe just how deeply I regret moving back to the US. This place is not well. I don't think people here appreciate just how unwell it is. It's legitimately scary being a parent in America. None of this is normal or okay. It's dark.

- Replying to @JennieBeth74I try to devote a lot of posts to this, but the main takeaway is that in the US everything is a high stakes, winner-take-all ideological battle. There is no human face to the pandemic. It's all ideological posturing where real lives are forgotten. I feel like a pawn, not a person
- We just moved back to the US less than a week ago after a years-long hiatus abroad. The thing that strikes me most? How profoundly underdeveloped much of the US really is. Infrastructure, medicine, laws, people, pandemic response, all of it. This is not a first world country.
- This idea that Arabs let themselves believe that Trump was their political savior is so stupid it actually borders on racism. Almost nobody thought Trump was pro-Palestinian. But knowing that Harris was definitely not freed them to vote for whomever.Watching Arabs in Dearborn slowly awaken to the reality that Trump played them for absolute fools is quite satisfying.
- Replying to @crawlings13Finally the politics are so sclerotic. It's amazing that policymakers are unable to even begin addressing major crises (guns, climate, health care, mental health, etc.) in even incremental ways. Americans are entirely on their own. It's Lord of the Flies, but with iphones.
- So many self-proclaimed Catholics (many of them, doubtless, are Protestant converts) are really outing themselves by criticizing this. Catholicism is a tactile, sacramental faith. We more seamlessly blur nature and grace and offer it all for God's glory. So, yeah, we bless ice.
