🔔 New in @PLOSONE today journals.plos.org/plosone/articl… Our world-first research shows the Episodic #Disability Questionnaire (EDQ) is a valid and reliable patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) among women living with #HIV, and disability is widely experienced 🧵

Invited to present at a medical conference about Long COVID. I’m told the conference is only permitting in person presentations. I’ve declined the offer, told them in-person only perpetuates ableism, and it’s not acceptable in this day & age. End.

Today, 10 days after 1st testing positive for #COVID19 round 2, my lateral flow is finally negative. So what did I learn about this reinfection as a person with #LongCOVID 🧵

Death and hospitalisation are not the only outcomes. The false dichotomy of “death Vs quick recovery”, has been a cause of delegitimising COVID causing prolonged illness. Disability and #LongCOVID remain largely ignored in the pandemic narrative, and even more so around #Omicron.

And *WHY ON EARTH* would I want to go to an in person conference full of people. Jog on. I’m not getting COVID again.

I feel like I repeat myself sometimes. So I’ll try do it in one tweet for fun. #LongCOVID is not burnout. Exercise is a type of physical activity. All forms of physical activity are exertion. If exertion makes symptoms worse, you can’t exercise or think your way out of it.

Appologies if my tweet was not clear. This is a UK medical conference aimed at GPs and other health professionals. I was invited to present on the topic of Long COVID. I have the physical ability to attend in person. I’ve chosen not to accept the invitation and made it clear why.

Even to this day it still feels like a kick in the gut when you share your lived experience of a #LongCOVID health challenge with a team you’ve been referred to for specialist input, for the Dr to roll their eyes and say “yeah but I’ve never seen that … seems unlikely” 🤬

I find how people react differently to fatigue fascinating. My sister is pregnant & has fatigue. People are saying rest, don’t over exert, look after yourself. When I had severe #LongCOVID fatigue I had advice to try yoga, do a bit more each day, keep pushing/trying. What gives?

This might be the most important lesson I’ve ever read and how it relates to #LongCOVID Every #rehabilitation #rehab professional needs to read this. #GlobalPT we need to learn from history @history_physio, learn from mistakes, and avoid harm!

Is ‘Long Covid’ similar to ‘Long SARS’?

Today was a big day. We went cycling. Last time was Sept 2020 the day before my huge Long COVID crash. I’m now largely symptom free, stable, & no more PESE. I’ve noticed ⬆️ ability to exert myself more. Today felt like the time, & my ability, was right. And it felt fab to do it.

I am living with #LongCOVID. I am experiencing multi-dimensional and episodic disability, across all dimensions of disability. My primary symptom is fatigue & post-exertion malaise. Along with other symptoms. I want to describe the nature & extent of disability I experience.
