Receiving a knighthood from the Queen is an extraordinarily proud moment for me and my family. As a working class kid growing up in Scotland, I could never have dreamt of such a thing. I am truly humbled to be recognized by Her Majesty as part of the jubilee celebrations.

They told me I don’t get to shake the king’s hand during the ceremony, so I threw a tantrum, lay down on the stage and refused to leave!

I really wish my mother was alive to see this….. Mainly so I could ask her why she would dress a toddler in corduroy dungarees.
Can you guess which recent chemistry laureate is standing in his childhood neighbourhood? Some clues: - He was born in Scotland - He was one of the first young men in his hometown to attend university, along with his older brother - He is a huge football fan #NobelPrize

Our lab just turned 25 years old, which makes it older than 1/2 the folk now in the group! I still remember the first day at Berkeley getting pizza with Vy and Tristan. Pics from celebration last night and one from 25 years ago. Everyone is young in all (except for 1 person).

Big shout out to my friend and colleague Paul Chirik who is receiving the Linus Pauling Award at UW in Seattle today. The warm up band is Rob Knowles so this will be a killer symposium. Congratulations to Paul and to all of the @pchirik lab for this outstanding achievement.

I remember being 7 years old and watching the man who played Capt Kirk on TV. Today I got the chance to chat with the real life astronaut @WilliamShatner and it was out of this world. Talked about organocatalysis, blue origin & carbon removal and he even said hi to Jim McCusker!

One of the most special moments of my life, and I was so lucky to share it with Jean. When you hold this book and see the signatures of all the laureates through the ages, then you get to the page with your name on it…..just surreal. I will treasure this picture forever.
"This is when my imposter syndrome becomes very strong!" Throwback to when 2021 chemistry laureate David MacMillan visited the Nobel Foundation. He and his wife had a very emotional moment looking at the guestbook with signatures from previous #NobelPrize laureates.

So saddened to hear the news about Fraser Stoddart passing. He was a remarkable man in so many ways. I consider myself very fortunate to have shared some really great times with him, discussing our upbringing and our intense pride in being Scottish. For me, he was a role model, a

I was asked what America and Princeton University mean to me. With the University’s help we made a very short video, where I talk about Princeton and why all of our academic enterprises are so important to the US and to the world. As you can see, this is very personal for me.
