So turns out the Greens losses are really mostly driven by Germany and France, and that the right wing surge is most driven by… Germany and France

Brief academic story. July 2022: I am encouraged to apply for a job in Germany. I apply. February 2023: A semi-cryptic email invites me to send more documents to be considered as part of the short list. Documents are essentially the same as sent in 2022, but yeah ok fine.

March 2024: Letter arrives. It informs that the search failed because... of concerns with the gender composition of the candidates. Closing curtain.

Thrilled to join Oxford as full professor in January '24. I am psyched for the new adventure and meeting new colleagues and students. Also excited for getting to spend more time with EU scholars and continue my research which naturally sits between IR and comparative politics.

March 2023: invited for an interview in April. I ask for new date (or online interview) because fam is away, husband is busy, childcare needs to be arranged. The committee says they can only do that day in person and not confirming the date=refusing the interview. I refuse it.

New paper with @nikhargaikwad and @dustintingley is now on FirstView @apsrjournal! 💥 We are excited to have this out in the wild and see how it contributes to growing discussions on the comparative and international politics of climate change! Here's what the paper is about: 1/

Italy is living a massive drought attributed to climate change, yet neither the news nor the government are not taking the issue at all seriously.

Increasingly allergic to the quiet polisci norm that empirical papers should come up with elaborated theories/expectations first even if effectively they're intuitions from the process of data exploration. We/I have been inculcated this is the way to present but often doesnt work

Delighted - and humbled! - to receive the Philip Leverhulme Prize! It takes a village, a lot of effort, many rejections, and a nontrivial pinch of luck to be here! Thanks to mentors, colleagues, friends, and @floriangkern who always pushes me to be my best me at work and in life

The so-called qual vs quant debate in the social sciences is way overplayed. My longstanding take is: it’d be much more helpful to distinguish work that has a justifiable research design and work that does not. Eg senseless correlational stuff doesnt win over careful ethnography

Maybe it’s an emigrant thing, maybe it’s that I have lived in England for almost 10 years (gasp) but I will never not feel like a spoiled child the morning after coming back when I sit at a random bar for a cheap breakfast. Oh Italy.
