- Hey John. I'm the founder. You'll see I started the fund to fight racism, not donate to any specific organisation. As an entrepreneur, ofc I don't want the downfall of capitalism. But I do know how many of our team face shocking racism and want to support them by tackling that.
- The scences from Valencia were awful last week, horrific. It happens to be the home of @OctopusEnergy in Spain (@OctopusEnergyES). This is the street where our main warehouse/depot is - and I'm going to share some of the messages from our team there. It's soberingly awful 1/n
- It costs less than £10k extra to build a “zero bills” home. Thanks to a heat pump, solar, battery and smart optimisation from @OctopusEnergy, these @ilkehomes houses are not some pipedream. They’re here now. Electrification is magic
00:00 - Onshore wind is quick to build, and cheap But because you couldn't build it here, investment's been going overseas - with the UK missing out on jobs, economic growth and cheap energy It's great to see the ban lifted and we'll work to bring cheap power to communities who want it
00:00 - Replying to @g__jIncredibly, this is the people of Valencia - walking to the most affected areas to help - see just how long the queue is... It's not possible to get there by car - so they're on foot. Tirelessly helping the people affected.
00:00 - Replying to @g__j(and if most people heard or saw some of the vile abuse they get - just because of their colour - I know they'd feel the same because I think most people are fundamentally decent, even if the brevity and instant emotion of social media exacerbate our differences)
- This is UK crazy electricity regulation… Scotland generates so much electricity we turn off the turbines when it’s windy (instead of Scots getting cheap/free power). Meanwhile they pay highest standing charges because the monopolies have long wires. We really do need huge reformReplying to @HullTeslaModel3Wow... the south is cheaper for standing charge!
- Remember those headlines that Bulb's failure could cost taxpayers £6bn? Actually, the total cost will be virtually nothing, thanks to the fair deal @OctopusEnergy put together when others walked away. Great piece by @gillplimmer1 & @RachelMillardAS on.ft.com/3xrt2SZ
- I'd like to welcome Bulb customers and staff. We'll do our darnedest to look after you through the transition and the crisis.
- Good news, Lee I heard you like a bargain. This weekend has been so windy and sunny that on @OctopusEnergy's Agile tariff we'd have PAID YOU to charge those batteries x.com/tomwarren/stat… (🇬🇧 renewables can slash energy costs & reduce our reliance on overseas fuel)Net Zero Nonsense. Cutting my lawns with a battery powered lawnmower (a gift) gets you thinking.
00:00Readers added contextOn the day of filming, the UK grid was being powered by more than 76% renewable and nuclear sources, including more than 50% wind and 10% solar generation, although local solar generation would be far higher due to clear skies. grid.iamkate.com - And on the same street, another - and much more welcome bit of clean transport - since these lamp post chargers sprung up, so a bunch of people have gone electric. On-street charging really works for terraces / people without drives & garages
- Replying to @g__jAs promised... This is the letter I've sent to customers who emailed. Summary: Ad slots were not planned by us. We'll monitor any new channels (including this) before running ads and will only advertise if balanced and meets our policies.
- Remember the lurid headlines about the cost of bulb’s failure? Turns out the govt made huge profit on the Octopus deal and no loss on the whole bailout. When others banged their fists and tried to bully the govt into a bad deal, we worked hard to create a fair one. And it worked.Exclusive: Octopus Energy, the UK’s second-biggest household energy supplier, will say tomorrow that it has paid over £3bn to the government in connection with the 2022 rescue of rival Bulb, generating a profit for taxpayers of more than £1.5bn. news.sky.com/story/octopus-…
