There have been many bills, since 2015, that attempted to "end fake news and hate speech" but they have all proved to be excuses to censor free speech. Politicians are now using recent events as an excuse to renew the call for censorship over platforms they consider threatening.

Please @gbengasesan help with some clarity on this Social Media Bill. What’s happening? What can we do? #SayNoToSocialMediaBill

Lagos State government, Lekki Concession Company and some members of the Lagos State Judicial Panel members inspired the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest planned for 7am on Saturday, February 13.

“Go to court” but you’re trying to compromise their party, and can’t stop getting your knickers in a twist over someone you claimed “came third”? Shame on you!

This is what young Nigerians are up to when they carry those laptops and smartphones. Very soon, a minister or government representative will mention this as Nigeria's success. It is, but in spite of government. If you can't support young people, get out of their way!

As a precaution, protesters should please use a virtual private network (VPN) on their mobile phones (and other devices). VPNs help you cover your tracks, ensure privacy and keep you anonymous. If you're joining any #EndSARS protest, buzz me for a free VPN app. DM is open.

VPN is temporary. Many individuals and organisations have filed lawsuits. More importantly, don't outsource your voice or action to others by asking "what next?" Do something. Team up with others to file class action lawsuits so that ISPs will have a reason to say no. #KeepitOn

Say his name: Jimoh Isiaq. Earlier today, the government of Nigeria, represented by trigger-happy men of @PoliceNG, murdered Jimoh Isiaq who was peacefully protesting against police brutality in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. #RIPJimohIsiaq #EndSARS

This message is for those inside government who are currently weighing the cost of siding with the people against future political prospects: if you don't stand up to save Nigeria now, by speaking uncomfortable truth to your oga at the top, you have no future anyway! #EndSARS

Fair point but should we retain a CEO who stood by while our company’s most important assets were destroyed by consultants he invited? Is experience defined by loyalty to an ex CEO who uses successors to control company funds? Why call for applications if we’re afraid of hiring?

Does experience matter or not? Will you give a newly qualified driver your Ferrari to drive? If not why? Does it matter that someone with no public sector/service experience wants to be the CEO of the state with the largest economy in Africa. Don’t cut ur nose to spite ur face.

Why must you try to explain every show of incompetence away with excuses? You blame the media, NGOs, international institutions, other nations, citizens; everyone apart from the Commander-in-Chief who fought so hard to become one and promised to keep everyone safe. What a shame!

Restricting social media in Nigeria, a week before the day set aside by the country as Democracy Day (June 12), says a lot about the @MBuhari administration.

The Nigerian government was never sincere about accepting the demands of #EndSARS protesters. Clearly, the minority that wanted to do it right have now been overrun by the majority that favoured government's typical response - clampdown. The capacity for shame is out the window.

How many times have you told someone, "wow, you look so much like my friend, X"? Amazing, right? Well, François Brunelle has seen it all 🙂. He's been taking pictures of look-alike strangers for 20 years, and you can see his project here: francoisbrunelle.com/webn/e-project…
