My boyfriend isn't romantic. I've (mostly) accepted that. And while I love romance, it's not a non-negotiable for me. Especially since he's very thoughtful. Example: He rarely buys me flowers but orders many things I need, like my supplements, before I realize I need them.

As the eldest daughter, I've taken care of kids since I was 3. By 15 I was leaving cheer practice at 5 to oversee homework, enforce bath time, wash uniforms in the tub, dry them by the fan, clean the kitchen, do my homework then go to bed to wake up at 6am.

My married friends are sooo happy. The men cater to their wives. The wives nurture their husbands. Everyone is traveling and smiling frequently. Disagreements are real but can be acknowledged and sometimes even laughed at in retrospect. The glow is beautiful.

My 6yo nephew had an outburst while working on letters (speech delayed). I explained that sometimes things get hard, and had him sit outside to breathe. A month later I had a hard day. He grabbed my hand, took me outside and said, "breathe in, breathe out." And left me there.
