    This is the moment where as an American who was in Egypt’s Tahrir Square as Sisi was taking power, I can only say that this is the behavior of an authoritarian regime right before it is toppled - or begins to shot their own people. Stay safe, but don’t leave the streets!!

    Fredric Jameson has passed away. The most intelligent person I ever met, he let me take his Hegel course as a ragged homeless anarchist. The last of a great line of towering intellectuals, from Socrates to Auerbach, whose very sentences echo throughout history. A few anecdotes:

    Cambridge Analytica are rank amateurs at harvesting Facebook profiles compared to Palantir/USG and Faceook itself. The answer is not regulations, but to build privacy-enhancing and decentralized technologies that are actually usable and prevent mass data-harvesting to begin with.

    Very happy #PlanB featured the Assange family, and it was wonderful to see the support Lugano and the Bitcoin community gave the indomitable @StellaMoris1 and @GabrielShipton. Support for #FreeAssangeNOW is a pretty good litmus test of a person’s character.

    Three years ago, I quit W3C because DRM violated the sacred covenant that W3C with users - not just Google and Netflix. Now, not only we are seeing tons of programmers quitting for ethical reasons - AND proof we did the right thing. @doctorow @mer__edith boingboing.net/2020/01/08/rip…

    It appears #chatcontrol is back from the dead - this new law demands we hand over all media and links we send to the EU police under the guise of « saving the children »! I sure don’t trust the police with my private messages, and neither should you!
