    Hinkley Point C’s first reactor building is 17-metres taller this morning, thanks to the world’s biggest crane, Big Carl. Overnight, a 347-tonne liner steel ring was lifted onto the Unit 1 reactor building, which now stands at more than 32 metres tall! ow.ly/ZHze50IbxmW

    This is what action on climate change looks like.      We’re lifting the 245-tonne domed roof onto the first reactor building – allowing the nuclear reactor to be installed in 2024.      Britain is one big step towards #netzero and stronger #energysecurity.  #DomeLift

    The arrival of the reactor marks a significant milestone for Hinkley Point C. It was made by @Framatome_ and comes from the same factory which made the last nuclear reactor built for a British power station at Sizewell B in Suffolk.✅ Read more here - ow.ly/BEYC50N3brb
    The reactor makes its way to Hinkley Point C after a 2,000-mile journey.
    The first new nuclear reactor for a British power station in more than 30 years has arrived in Somerset.
    The reactor arrives by barge to Combwich Wharf on the River Parrett in Somerset.
    At just 13-metres long, the reactor will help provide enough low carbon electricity for 3m homes.

    Completion of the second reactor base has benefited from experience gained on the first identical unit – leading to increases in productivity. Unit 2 vs Unit 1 ✅Steel installed 45% faster ✅Liner cup floor constructed 30% faster ✅Cooling system components installed 50% faster

    THREAD The world is facing the biggest energy crisis for 50 years. Gas prices have gone through the roof. Britain needs reliable nuclear with wind and solar to become self-sufficient in energy, and less reliant on gas.

    The first reactor building is ready for the dome to be installed! It’s after Big Carl lifted the giant 750-tonne polar crane into place. It’ll rotate above the reactor during construction and operation. Next up – the lifting of the dome, which will close the building’s roof.
    The polar crane was lifted into place by the world's largest land-based crane, Big Carl.
    Weighing in at 750-tonnes, it is one of the heaviest lifts ever carried out on site.
    The polar crane will rotate above the first nuclear reactor.
    The dome will be installed next, closing the roof of the first reactor building.

    Big Carl has been in action again at #Hinkley Point C. It placed the first huge steel ring section onto the second reactor building, just 11 months after the same operation on the first reactor. The ring was built 25% quicker than ring 1 of Unit 1! edfenergy.com/energy/nuclear…

    2/4 Space rockets? - no these are the 500 tonne steam generators that will make steam to power Hinkley Point C's huge turbines. They're ready for delivery - another big step for Britain's energy security. HPC is vital for #NetZero, Britain's largest environmental project🌍⚡️
