Can we please remember that Esther Rantzen would have missed two birthdays at the very least had "#assisteddying" been legal and she had chosen that option? She is a (thankfully) living, breathing example of why passing this bill would be a mistake. #assistedsuicide

What? @kimleadbeater has just said that doctors MUST raise the issue of #assistedsuicide with terminally-ill patients, completely contradicting Clause 4(2) that does not obligate doctors to raise it. What a mess.

Well, the legislation passed yesterday will allow someone with Downs Syndrome who cannot sign his name will be given a proxy to sign it for him and someone to walk him through all his steps towards suicide. Maybe you think this is sweetness and light. I don't. #assistedsuicide

So we are told that there is no possibility that the criteria for #assisteddying/#assistedsuicide will expand because "robust safeguards". But 54 MPs are already campaigning for criteria to be widened. They're moving the goalposts before the game starts!

Shocking. The #assistedsuicide committee has just voted down (with the usual 15:8 ratio) an amendment requiring the patient "has met with a palliative care specialist for the purposes of being informed about the medical and care support options."
