My spicy take at the Reagan National Economic Forum debate about manufacturing was simple. If we have degrees in Community Studies or Environmental Sociology... ...then let's give degrees to welders and electricians, who do work that's both way harder and way more useful.

1/ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Today, @CAForever submitted detailed plans for the next great American city, an hour north of Silicon Valley, including: Solano Foundry, America’s largest manufacturing park, Solano Shipyard, our largest shipyard, and walkable neighborhoods for 400,000 Californians.

1/ @CAForever is answering the call to propel American shipbuilding for the next century. With today’s @POTUS Executive Order and the bipartisan SHIPS Act, we’re offering 3 miles of our waterfront to build the Solano Shipyard, the largest shipbuilding complex in America. 🧡

1/ America cannot compete with China without building America's Shenzen – a place to build drones, ships, robots, and everything else cutting edge. Where? On @CAForever's 100 square miles in Solano, 60 miles north of SF/Silicon Valley, where we invent that stuff. Here's why. 🧡

Lots of people are asking how we'll make @CAForever beautiful. Here is part of the plan. Step 1 – @mspringut and @Monumental_Labs succeed in making ornament and building from stone cheaper than shitty 5-over-1s. Step 2 – we get them to build a factory in the Solano Foundry.

1/ It's time to bring back "designed in California, made in California.” Today, at @reindsummit, @ashleevance and I introduced Solano Foundry, the largest advanced manufacturing park in America, an hour north of Silicon Valley. Built by @CAForever with @JLL. 🧡

There was a 2016 plan to upgrade the boardwalk to withstand high tide. NIMBYs blocked it using CEQA. This is the problem with California regs β€” our system favors β€œdo nothing” as if that’s always better than any change. False for industry, false for housing, false for energy.

Who is the largest taxpayer in California? @ChatGPTapp says Silicon Valley, with $56 billion. Want to fix the $12 billion budget deficit and avoid cuts to education, healthcare, etc? How about we stop pretending it’s all so complicated. Just build another Silicon Valley!

3/ This is personal. I’m a proud American, but I was born in Eastern Europe and saw firsthand the total devastation caused by communism. America’s industryβ€”Ronald Reagan’s 600-ship Navyβ€”broke the Soviet regime. Production is deterrence, and we need to rebuild it, now.

"If somehow you wiped off America's built environment, but kept our regulatory system, and we had to rebuild America, we absolutely not could do it. We are unable to rebuild the civilization we live in today, and it's not even close." From earlier chat w/ @isaiah_p_taylor.

2/ Last year, one Chinese shipyard built more ships than every American shipyard – combined – since WW2. You read that correctly – one shipyard! We’re desperately behind. Catching up is only possible if we combine modern manufacturing with production that matches China's scale.

57 of 58 counties in California have shifted more Republican. It's time to bring back the California that once stood for optimism and opportunity. And there's no way to do that unless we make building of everything lot easier. California that builds is a California that wins.

4/ Most of our shipyards are on the East and Gulf Coasts. But today, the threat is in the Pacific. Here, Solano fills the large gap between Bremerton and San Diego – far enough from both shipyards to avoid labor overlap, thus building a new maritime workforce.
