Coronavirus is a medical problem requiring scientific/medical solution. In Kenya the government has not asked scientists to come up with solutions. Instead religious leaders assemble to pray. Science vs magic.#coronavirusinKenya #Covid_19 @makaumutua

The Gen Z revolt in Kenya is yet to run its full course. It was and is based on an idea of establishing an accountable leadership and government. But some political elites have failed to recognize that the Gen Z will come back if the systems fail to deliver. And tribe will not

Some lawyers should attend lectures in Political Science 101. A by-election is not a referendum. A referendum is substantive - 3 IEBC commissioners cannot handle it because it has national policy and constitutional consequences. Especially if law requires 5 as quorum.

Holiday Message to political elites! When in power insist on justice and equal treatment for all! DO NOT celebrate violent repression of your opponents because 5 or 10 years later you will be an opponent. Build a bed of good of laws and Justice. You will sleep on it!

At every every election, Kenyans choose between tribal passion/emotions and leadership. They pick the tribe. Between elections they expect ‘emotions’ to deliver development. IMPOSSIBLE. Stop looking at flooded roads and poor state of development

When lawyers begin showing ignorance on matters ‘jurisprudence’, then we should begin questioning the law schools in this country. Oops and these lawyers end up as judges!

We should always remember that governments are given power by citizens only for one purpose: transform societies. Once those in government begin transforming their own lives, then the people get angry

In Kenya 2020 will not be different from 2019. Elite conflicts over 2022 politics will intensify. Economic growth will remain sluggish. And people will continue praying - religiously- without doing anything to correct the situation.

In Kenya, ‘consensus’ among powerful elites leads to calm; it reduces tensions that characterise political disputes. Also inclusive politics emerge when those excluded are “informally included” in new power arrangements. Gen-Z have disrupted this model!

There nothing to refer to as ‘the Curse of Deputies or the Curse of Vice Presidents’. It is all the result of poor democratic governance … the curse is result of conflicts over self interests! Not even over power! It is interests

A patriot is a person who defends the interests of his/her country. KQ suspended Mr. Gire Ali, a patriot protecting Kenyans from spread of coronavirus. He is a patriot. #BringGireback.@cobbo3 @makaumutua @IEAKenya @davidmakali1 @KenyaAirways

SC - researchers have the capacity. It is the government that doesn’t like science at all. That is why they don’t fund universities. This morning a Kenyan scientist was speaking in SA as an expert in SA; last week another was doing so in France. Magic kenya

It is my pleasure to transition out of my role of Director of Research at IDS UoN - handing over to a new team under my colleague Prof Kamau - PK. Development research for societal change is our business! #UonResearchWeek @IDS_UONBI
