With the COVID-19 pandemic upon us, and social distancing becoming a moral necessity, please spare a thought for all the people who will be essentially trapped in a home with violent and otherwise abusive partners and parents. For months.

Unfun fact: abortion was not a political issue in this country until the early 1970s, when it was deliberately made a political issue to goad white evangelicals into voting Republican.

To be clear, I am often happy to provide reduced rates or even free labor to organizations that need it. Google, um, does not qualify.

Increasingly wishing that America's plan for women wasn't just the plot of The Giving Tree

If I was a columnist, I would write a piece today about the extraordinary sense of entitlement to women's service that begrudges Hillary Clinton a walk in the woods on November 10 2016, or Elizabeth Warren a lighthearted skit on SNL in lieu of devoted instant kowtowing to Bernie.

If you think Britney's forced IUD is bad (and, my word, it is), wait until you hear about the long history of forcibly sterilizing Indigenous and Black and disabled women in this country.

Going into super-Tuesday, consider that the damned electability narrative around Elizabeth Warren isn't just a self-fulfilling prophesy: it also frames voting for her as a selfish choice, tantamount to throwing your vote away in the fight against Trump. Bullshit. Vote your voice.

Obviously no organization is obligated to pay me anything for what I do. But I quote my fee upfront precisely to avoid being jerked around in this way. I also got the distinct sense they wanted me to talk for free. I do this all the time. But no way would I do it for Google. Fin.

Giving hope, whatever the grim truth of the matter, is a feminine-coded pseudo-obligation that is far too seldom questioned. Good for Greta Thunberg, as usual, for resisting it.
