Ok, my 14 year old is doing some history about the Troubles in NI (where we live).
And so she asks her grandparents if they have any stories…

- Replying to @kiityc and @BernieSandersThey are charging US patients hundreds of dollars because it is what the US multiple payer system allows them to charge. The UK single payer system keeps the costs low, and patients benefit.
- Replying to @BernieSandersJust FYI. This is what Eli Lilly charges the UK government for insulin, which is provided free of charge to all diabetic patients in the UK.
- Replying to @kiitycMy husband and I hadn’t heard *any* of these stories. Our parents are able to tell this now as “mad things that happened back in the day” to their grandchildren. It was too real and too recent to tell to us as children, clearly.
- Replying to @WholesomeMemeAnd...my husband said “the two guys on the end switched” and I said “what about the middle” and he said “oh, cool the one with the beard looks happier now as a chick ”...and that is how I know I have a keeper.
- Yesterday, my beautiful mum left us, peacefully, at home. She is the woman I’ll be thinking of today on #IWD2024 Her legacy will be the strong, capable women she created, the grandchildren she loved fiercely and every patient she helped. Erica Graham 27.4.50-7.3.24
- Replying to @PotatopoliticsAndrew Tate: Look at my cars and muscles. Straight women: BRB, watching Tom Holland dancing to Umbrella in drag for the 10,000th time.
- Replying to @kiitycMy father: “Oh, there was a bomb scare the night your mother (I) was born. We got locked in the pub and your nana was really annoyed I missed visiting”.
- The absolutely MASSIVE elephant in the room that HMG have conveniently ducked, is that cutting welfare will mean an increase in unpaid family caring. And that this will hugely, and unequally, affect women, who will be driven out of work and into both caring and poverty.
- Replying to @kiitycMy mother in law: “Well, there was that time I was taking my mother in law to her hospital appointment at the Royal Victoria and we saw a soldier get shot dead on the Falls Road outside the hospital”.
- Drs watching this, screaming at him to hurry up and do it right. Non- medics “so calm, such a hero, wow”. No. This is TERRIBLE. You want someone to resuscitate your newborn very, very much better (and faster) than this. How slow and steady the doc is during the whole time. And when he smiles a little, phew.
00:00 - Replying to @kiitycApparently, she was in such a caravan in a carpark, doing a mammogram on some poor lady, when a car bomb went off…and the engine block sailed over the caravan and landed on the other side.
- Replying to @kiitycThe one to beat them all: My mother (sadly no longer with us) was one of the first Drs involved in Action Cancer Well Woman cancer screening: typically caravans in shopping centre car parks doing mammograms and smears.
- Replying to @tehoem88 and @MarcoFoster_No one wants substandard US meat. Meet everyone else’s welfare, hygiene and additive requirements.
