Sorry, I keep getting confused. Are the bad guys the people building electric cars, or the people torching them?

- I wrote an essay about Gmail’s useless email-writing AI assistant: “AI Horseless Carriages”. link and TLDR in thread
- Lucas and Thomas founded Deepnight (YC W24) to replace analog night vision systems with software. Their models are able to render images like the one on the right at 90fps on commodity hardware.
- I’m thrilled to announce that today I’m joining @ycombinator as a Group Partner. This is the second time that YC has changed the course of my life. (🧵1/10)
- I can't remember being more painfully aware of the gap between the software I use all day and what is currently possible, let alone what will be possible in a year or two. It feels like being stuck in traffic knowing teleportation exists.
- We've been in the market for a new model y, but i'm not one to pass up a good deal. If you're trying to make a statement by unloading yours at a steep discount I will gladly take it off your hands. Prefer recent model years w low mileage.
- If you want to predict the future, the question is not what models will do, but what people will do with models.
- Today is the deadline to apply for YC's fall batch. Applying is a bet so asymmetric it’s crazy not to make it: downside capped at 30 minutes of writing, uncapped, life-changing upside.
- Vibe coding might actually be making me a better coder because it forces me to chunk my project into incremental, easily reversible steps. I'm no longer tempted to launch into the marathon "might as well fix X while I'm at it" refactors I usually end up regretting.
- Today is the deadline to apply for YC's spring batch. If you're on the fence, watch this video @dsiroker and I attached to our W2010 app. We applied at the last minute with a DOA idea and it was one of the best decisions we ever made.
00:00 - At age 15 Lucas became the youngest ever certified SolidWorks expert. At 19 he interned at Tesla, designing parts for the Cybertruck. At 20 he walked away from a full scholarship at U of T to build @tryfabricate with his friend (and cracked programmer) Ethan. Together, they'reMechanical engineers hate making 2D engineering drawings. @tryfabricate (YC F24) generates them instantly, saving them up to 40 hours a month. ycombinator.com/launches/MIK-f…
00:00 - In honor of @ycombinator's 20th birthday I thought I'd share why this institution means so much to me. I graduated from a public high school in a small western NY town surrounded by farms and factories.
